what is steemit?
Steemit is a social media platform that runs on top of a blockchain and rewards members with creptocurrency for participating on the site Steemit.com.

1. Steemit as a Social Media platform: This simply means that steemit allows it's members commonly as steemeans to publish content in form of posts. This post are basically blogs you create to the steemit website as a member you can also upvote other users posts, comment on post and re-steem which is similar to twitting a post on Twitter or sharing someone else's post on Facebook. You can also follow other steemians to get access to their shared content and also search for contents without other further engagements at all.

2. It is Centered around post: You may ask what are this posts all about? In this case your post can cover any topic that you like as long as it is not violating any law especially when it comes to do with copyright laws and to also avoid plagiarism. Generally you can post about anything and your post can take any form. You can post in blog format, images, videos, memes and whatever at all. There is no any standard style that you are required to post either. For example, your post can be educational videos or even sharing ads, so the platform is open to everyone's style and format. It is important to also tag your articles with relevant tags so that they show up on the related feeds, post are organized by tags you use. Aside from tagging your articles so that they show up on your previous feed, tags are also hopeful when you decide on content you want to be browsing as a member as well.
For example if you use the #machine-learning tag by looking at the machine-learning you then order this post by newness or currently trending.

3. Steemit runs on top of a blockchain: It runs in what is known as the steem blackchain. This steem blockchain is accessible and distributed database that  tracks all  the activities on  the  site. This  simply  means the steem store all the database on steemit.com So that means every steem you made, upvote, re-steem and every edit etc is being stored forever on the steem blockchain. This blockchain is what powers and distributes the rewards to others steem network.

4. Rewards members with creptocurrency: The steem block chain just like other current blockchain, the steem cryptocurrency  each time a blog is created. This creptocurrency called steem as well. When speaking about cryptocurrency STEEM is in all caps and when speaking of the blockchain the first letter S is capitalized. This steem token is what is distributed to the members within the community for participating on the site unlike other blockchain were members get the crepto created from new blog not the case with steem. With the steem blockchain majority of the new steem created from producing a new blog is actually distributed to the members of the community as reward for their participation.

5. Participating on the site steemit.com: There are few things that will influence how much you get paid but most importantly is the engagement your posts receive, so if other members of the community are commenting, upvoting and steeming your post,. I think likely you are going to get paid for that. Additionally you can get paid for doing other activities on the site aside posting, you can get paid for upvoting and commenting on other people's post as well. This rewards are called curation rewards where as the rewards you get for posting are called other rewards.
